Vinayakrao Patil Mahavidyalaya has been established in 1968 & the Dept. of Sociology established in the academic year 1969-70. In the initial stage up to 1974 Mr. S. S. Garud was the only teacher teaching Sociology. Up to 1974 he looked after an additional charge of N.S.S. Program officer & took keen interest in the activities having social relevance. He organized N.S.S. Camps for college students, teachers & the villagers. Youth against Feminine, Youth for Rural Reconstruction these were the main themes under which he undertook activities regularly. In 1974 Mr. N.K. Patil joined the department as a 2nd teacher under leadership of H.O.D. Mr. S .S. Garud. Mr. N. K. Patil also worked as program officer of N.S.S. for 16 years during the span of 29 years’ service (1974-2001) Department of sociology & N.S.S. Until jointly undertook certain curricular, extracurricular and research activity. We Study of beggars of Vaijapur, Rural Educated Unemployed, Female Murders, Present Position of Rural women, Shivrai Village at a Glance, Tobacco chewer and gutakha chewer students etc. Mr. N. K. Patil has kept continuous contact with the students of sociology as well as the students from any discipline. Mr. S.S. Garud retired in 1996. Due to the policy of Maharashtra Govt, instead of full-time teachers the teachers on clock hour basis are appointed from 1997 onwards. Mr. C. K. Deshmukh, Mr. Vijay Wadkar, Mr. Sagwe, Mrs. Patil, Mr. Bandu Kawale, etc. worked for one or two years in the department and went away as they get full-time job. These teachers participate in curricular and extracurricular activities with Head Mr. N. K. patil and the N. S. S. Students. Mr. D. G. Tribhuwan had been worked as teacher on clock hour basis in the department. He is aluminous of the college and the department; he has also participated in N.S.S, activities and extracurricular activities. Mr.N.K. Patil H.O.D. retired in June-2007, Mr. S. K. Rathod & Mr. P.T. Bachewad Join the department 12 July 2007. During with Mr. P. T. Bachewad Transfer to other college & Mr. Kale R.B. Join the Department 15 July 2009 following the tradition of the department Mr .S. K. Rathod is working as Head. & N.S.S. Programme officer. A new course M.A. Sociology has been started from academic year 2014- 15. Mr. Kale R.B. worked as a program officer from academic year 2014 to 2016. Mr. S.D. Hiwale joined the department as Assistant Professor in 2016 to replacement of Mr. R. B. kale as per order issued by MSPM Aurangabad. Also he worked as Program Officer of NSS in 2016-2017.
In Present, Dr. S. K. Rathod is working as Head, Dr. S. D. Hiwale is working as Associate Professor and Miss. A. K. Sakhare is working as post graduate teacher on Fix Pay Basis in department.

 

HOD’s Message:
On behalf of the Department of Sociology, I welcome to all of you who have chosen Sociology as an optional subject at degree level. Friends, today society is changing rapidly in the era of globalization. There are many reasons for this change. This change has a huge impact on our individual, family and daily social life. We are experiencing the good and bad results of that change today. But there are many complex social problems that are challenging us. If we want to explain those social problems, then it is necessary to understand root causes of these problems in the social system.So it is necessary to study that problem scientifically and today this task is does by sociology. Today sociology has studying the numerous social problems such as family institutions, marriage institutions, religious institutions,duties andrights citizen’s, beggars, unemployment are studied and researched.
The sociology is not only useful for the study of social problems, but the study of this subject is also useful for students preparing for various competitive examinations, at the professional level. Thegraduateand post graduate students have job opportunities to working as professors, social welfare officers, labour welfare officers, juvenile court judges, at social survey department, population census department.The student who has completed Master of Social Work (MSW) can get a job in various NGOs. So today the subject of sociology is useful at various aspects of life like, individual level, family level and professional level. Today in order to enrich our lives along with understanding social problems, there is an urgent need for the subject of sociology.
Today Dr.S.K. Rathod and Dr. S.D.Hiwale are working as associate professors at departmentand currently ten students are doing research work. The department have been organized Seminars on human rights and social development, new aspects of social research for human resource development and government schemes for drought affected areas. The department has continuously organise various curricular and co-curricular activities For example, it includes group discussions, seminars, guest lectures, guidance on project writing and educational trips etc. for the personality development of the students.  So you have chosen Sociology as an optional subject, I welcome you and thanks.
