The department of Economics was established in 1968 with Economics as one optional subject for B.A.
The Economics is one of the social sciences subject which deals with the study of the economic problems of the people as well as society, and economy. The department of Economics is established in June 1968, with the establishment of the institution. At present the department has a separate building in college campus. In present, computer and internet facilities are available in the department.
The prime object of department of Economics is to provide knowledge of about economical theory and concepts to the students and also trying to give the knowledge about current changes / events happening around us. The department is always being active in curricular and co-curricular activities.
Scope and importance of the subject:
The students of the Economics get the job opportunities in the following fields.
- Government Departments: Indian Economic Services (IES) through UPSC.
- Corporate Sector: Job titles such as Data Analysis, Financial Analysis, Research Analyst, Business Analyst, Economic Research Analyst, Market Analyst etc.
- Banks / Financial Institutions: Job at an entry level position in Bank, MNCs and research firms.
- Teaching: one can appear for NET/SET exam to qualify for working as Assistant Professor in college / university.
- Research: One can opt. for fellowship programmes offered by IIMS and other Management institutes.
- Statistical organizations: CSO, NSS offers jobs for graduates in Economics.
Achievements:
- The Department has organized one state level conference .
- The department has organized four regional level workshops for faculty and student .
- One Minor Research Project have been completed.
- One ongoing Faculty Minor Research Project under UGC Scheme STRIDE – I.
- Two Student Research Project have been completed under UGC Scheme STRIDE – I.
HOD’s Message:
The Department of Economics was established in 1968 with a B.A. degree.
Department – Student Activities:
The department aims in setting goals for students to lead a balanced, successful life with proper health, good relationships, and mental peace. Also, our goal is to create a better world through education, research and extension activities.
With the constant encouragement of our staff, many of our students have participated in intercollegiate competitions in academics and won various prizes. These activities have helped the students to go for higher studies.
Remedial classes are conducted successfully for the academic betterment of the students.
To create more interest in the subjects, students are motivated by giving more examples, diagrammatic representations, their applications in the real world using modern techniques and mathematical software packages.
Staff Activities:
At present, the department has 03 teaching staff.
The Department has organized one state-level conference of Marathwada Economics Association in 2018. The department has organized three regional level workshops for senior college teachers in the subject of Economics.
The department is a patron member of the Marathwada Economics Association.
